Khomp alternative for VICIdial: Khomp AMD vs VM Hunter

Khomp classifies calls in a SIP gateway that sits between VICIdial and your carrier. VM Hunter classifies on the dialer itself and leaves your call path alone. Here is how the two approaches differ and how to test them.

Khomp Analytics is an established call classification product with an official VICIdial integration. This page describes it from the VICIdial integration page and Khomp's own material, and VM Hunter from ours. Check with Khomp for current details, requirements and pricing.

How each one works

Khomp. VICIdial sends the SIP INVITE to the Khomp gateway, which forwards it to your carrier through its own routing. When the carrier answers, the gateway analyses the audio before passing the answer back, and returns a conclusion and a pattern that VICIdial acts on. Classification happens before the call reaches the dialer.

VM Hunter. VICIdial dials your carrier as it does today. At answer, an EAGI script streams the callee's audio to the VM Hunter service, which returns AMDSTATUS and AMDCAUSE in about two seconds. Nothing is added to the SIP path.

When Khomp is the right choice

  • You want classification to happen before the call reaches VICIdial, in a gateway you route through.
  • You want the integration that the VICIdial Group supports directly.

When VM Hunter is the right choice

  • You do not want to put a gateway in your SIP path or change carrier routing.
  • You want to see what was said on any call the detector labelled, with the reason and the audio.
  • Call screening is a meaningful share of your answers and you want to respond to it.
  • You want to start on a free plan and test on one campaign the same day.

A one-day test

  • Split one list at random into two campaigns: one through the Khomp gateway, one pointed at the VM Hunter routing extension.
  • Same agents, same hours, recordings on for both.
  • Next morning, listen to the first three seconds of 200 calls from each and mark what was there.
  • Count people dropped separately from voicemails that reached agents, then compare agent talk time and abandon rate.

Setup for the VM Hunter side is in the VICIdial guide.

FAQ

Questions

Is VM Hunter a Khomp alternative for VICIdial?

Yes. Both replace VICIdial's built-in AMD. Khomp does it with a SIP gateway placed between VICIdial and your carrier. VM Hunter does it with a script on the dialer that streams the answered call's audio to the VM Hunter service, so your SIP path and carrier routing do not change.

Do I have to change my carrier routing to use VM Hunter?

No. VM Hunter is not in the SIP path. VICIdial keeps dialling your carrier directly; the VM Hunter client runs in the AMD step of the dialplan.

Can I run Khomp and VM Hunter side by side?

Yes. Send one campaign through the Khomp gateway and point another at the VM Hunter routing extension, using the same list split at random, and compare the recordings.

Which is more accurate?

We have not measured Khomp on a shared set of calls, so we do not publish a comparison figure. Run the one-day test on this page.

How long does VM Hunter take to install on VICIdial?

About 30 minutes: one script in the agi-bin directory and one dialplan extension. The steps are in the VICIdial guide.

Try it on one campaign

The free plan includes 5,000 calls a month, enough to run VM Hunter next to your current AMD for a day and compare the dispositions. No card needed.
